Nine companies certified in Malaysia made the 2026 regional list, just as a record wave of data centre and AI investment reshapes the country’s tech labour market.

Malaysia is where Southeast Asia’s computing capacity is being built. Over two-thirds of the data centre capacity under construction across the region’s five main economies is committed to Malaysia, and Johor has become the region’s fastest-growing data centre hub, expected to hold 60 per cent of the country’s capacity by 2030, according to analysis from the Asia Society.

It’s in this landscape that nine companies certified in Malaysia earned places on Southeast Asia’s Best Workplaces™ in Technology 2026, a list built on a confidential survey given to 219,262 employees across six countries, making it the largest workplace culture survey in the region.

Who made the first ever Southeast Asia’s Best Workplaces in Technology List?

Cisco topped the Large category with certifications in all six countries surveyed, Malaysia among them, and Cognizant ranked eighth. In the Medium category, Experian ranked second, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres thirteenth and Westcon-Comstor sixteenth. The Small category features Hemmersbach at ninth, NEXT Ventures at fifteenth and Noventiq at sixteenth. Rooftop Energy took seventeenth.

The mix is exciting, a credit bureau, a technology distributor, a data centre operator and, in Rooftop Energy, a young Malaysian energy company whose people rated it onto a technology list. Experian’s second place in the Medium category came from certifications in Malaysia and Singapore, and ST Telemedia’s certified Malaysian business builds the exact capacity Johor is now famous for.

RM31 billion into data and cloud

The data centre and cloud vertical led investment under the Malaysia Digital initiative with RM30.95 billion, and the digital economy is expected to reach 25.5 per cent of GDP by the end of 2025, per Bernama and Digital in Asia. The first half of 2025 alone brought RM13.29 billion in approved AI sector investment.

The build-out reaches past the server halls. Penang keeps drawing semiconductor and high-value electronics manufacturers, and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has committed RM2 billion to a sovereign AI cloud within a RM5.9 billion package for AI research, development and commercialization, per Bernama.

Capital on that scale needs people to run it, and the competition for them is regional. For Malaysian tech workers weighing offers, the list works as a shortcut: nine employers whose own staff, surveyed confidentially, said the culture holds up. Noventiq, the digital transformation firm certified in Malaysia, the Philippines and Cambodia, sees the connection plainly.

“I’ve always believed that our greatest achievements begin with our people. By creating an environment where people feel trusted, supported, and empowered, we’re enabling them to do their best work for our customers and for one another. I’m proud that this recognition reflects the culture our colleagues have built together across the region.”- Ilya Anzhiganov, President, Noventiq APAC & MEA

“This recognition is more than an award, it is proof that when people feel valued, empowered, and connected to a purpose, extraordinary things happen.” – NEXT Ventures

Malaysia spent 2025 winning the race for infrastructure. The contest for the engineers and analysts who will run it is only beginning, and the nine companies on this list start it with something competitors cannot buy, employees who vouch for them.
